Nitro assisted living facility evacuated after sprinkler incident
An assisted living facility in Nitro had to be evacuated over the weekend after a frozen pipe in the facility’s sprinkler system burst, causing damage, according to WCHS. The incident occurred at The Village on Park. A total of 30 rooms were evacuated, and KRT provided a warming bus for residents during the incident. [WCHS]
Clean water focus of county commission in 2026
The Kanawha County Commission is focused on providing water service to citizens who live in areas of the county that do not currently have access to running water. Metro News reports that work is currently underway in the Leatherwood, Upper Rambling Hills, Alcott, Dutch Ridge, Laurel Fork, and Brown’s Creek area to install water lines. Commissioner Lance Wheeler said the project requires 40 miles of pipe installation for those six areas alone. [WV Metro News]
Man injured in Monday shooting in Charleston
A man was injured in a morning shooting in North Charleston on Monday. WOWK reports police received a shots-fired call around 6 a.m. on Monday along Hutchinson Street. The suspect fled the scene. The shooting victim was treated by emergency services, who were able to stop the man’s bleeding. [WOWK]
