The Federal Aviation Administration awarded West Virginia International Yeager Airport nearly $14.8 million to support the airport’s ongoing terminal modernization project, airport officials announced Monday.
The FAA awarded the airport $14,786,753 through the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act’s Airport Terminal Program. The funding is part of a nationwide $970 million investment supporting 133 airport projects in 45 states.
Airport officials said the funding will support CRW Next, the airport’s phased terminal modernization project. The project aims to replace aging infrastructure and improve the passenger experience.
Planned improvements include an expanded security checkpoint, upgraded passenger amenities and Americans with Disabilities Act accessibility enhancements. Officials said the upgrades will improve passenger flow and help the airport accommodate future growth.
“This investment represents another major step forward for CRW Next and the future of air travel in our region,” Airport Director and CEO Dominique Ranieri said in a statement.
Ranieri said the improvements will help the airport better serve passengers while positioning the facility for continued growth.
The Airport Terminal Program provides discretionary grant funding for terminal reconstruction and improvement projects that improve accessibility, energy efficiency and passenger travel experiences at airports across the country.
Yeager Airport is West Virginia’s largest commercial airport. The airport serves four airlines with nonstop service to several destinations.
Airport officials said the airport served more than 432,000 passengers during fiscal year 2025, an eight percent increase compared with 2024.
Yeager Aiport is currently undergoing several renovation projects, which officials estimate will cost $65-75 million.
As previously reported in the Update, the airport will host CRW Next Industry Day on May 22 at Embassy Suites by Hilton Charleston. Airport officials encouraged contractors, construction managers, specialty contractors and industry partners to attend and learn more about upcoming terminal development opportunities and other capital improvement projects.
