Families across Kanawha County will have an opportunity to spend a weekend on the water without purchasing a fishing license when West Virginia's annual Free Fishing Days return June 13-14.

The statewide event allows both residents and nonresidents to fish in West Virginia's public waters at no cost and without obtaining a fishing license. The program is part of a nationwide effort to make fishing more accessible and encourage people of all ages to experience the outdoors.

For Kanawha County residents, the free fishing weekend offers a chance to visit local lakes, ponds and streams while introducing children and first-time anglers to the sport. Experienced fishermen can also take advantage of the event to explore new fishing destinations throughout the region.

State officials are encouraging families to plan an outdoor adventure during the two-day event.

Free Fishing Days is available statewide. Local anglers can participate close to home or travel elsewhere in West Virginia to fish public waters without a license during the designated weekend.

Visitors traveling from outside West Virginia can also take part in the event.

Those looking for a place to fish can use the state's online fishing map to locate lakes, streams and other public fishing opportunities across the Mountain State.
