Mark your calendars. Girls in Aviation Day will return to West Virginia International Yeager Airport this fall, giving families a chance to explore the world of aviation through interactive exhibits, hands-on activities and career demonstrations.
The free event is open to girls of all ages. It will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 19, at the Marshall University Bill Noe Flight School at West Virginia International Yeager Airport.
Visitors can experience flight simulators, view aircraft on display and take part in STEM activities designed to introduce the many careers available in aviation. Attendees also will have the opportunity to meet pilots, engineers, mechanics, air traffic controllers and other aviation professionals while learning about educational pathways into the industry.
Organizers say the event aims to encourage girls and young women to consider careers in aviation and aerospace, but the event is open to everyone.
Families also can explore interactive exhibits, enjoy giveaways and learn more about aviation organizations and career opportunities in a welcoming, family-friendly environment.
Admission is free, and registration will be available when attendees arrive at the event.
Organizations interested in participating as vendors or exhibitors are encouraged to apply. Organizers are seeking aviation groups, STEM organizations, educational institutions and community partners to help introduce young people to careers in the aviation industry.
Girls in Aviation Day will be held at the Marshall University Bill Noe Flight School, 600 Eagle Mountain Road, Charleston.
