Kanawha County voters will decide whether to renew two excess property-tax levies in the Nov. 3 general election, one supporting public schools and the other funding public libraries.
The measures are separate ballot questions. The school levy, last renewed in 2022, would continue funding for instructional services, employee compensation, school facilities and other district operations from July 1, 2029, through June 30, 2034. The library levy would provide an estimated $3.18 million annually for the Kanawha County, South Charleston and Nitro public libraries during its five-year renewal period.
Both proposals would maintain their existing property-tax rates.
The interactive guide below presents the ballot language alongside plain-language explanations of how the money could be spent, what the measures would cost property owners and what a vote for or against each renewal would mean. Explore each proposal at your own pace, see where the money would go and use the property-tax calculator to find out what each levy would cost you.
