Party: Nearly 200 Kindergarten through fifth-grade students participated in a Glow Part at the Hansford Center in St. Albans over the weekend. The free event, sponsored by the city's Parks and Recreation Department, featured music, food and prizes. See more photos from the celebration.
Closure: The intersection of Fourth Avenue and Washington Street in Montgomery will be closed today (Tuesday, March 11, 2025) beginning at noon. City officials said West Virginia American Water would be repairing leaking valves. The intersection will reopen once workers have completed the repairs. More info here.
Health: Pertussis (whooping cough) can be deadly in babies and young children but is easily preventable, officials say. Dr. Youmna Mousattat, a pediatrician at WVU-Thomas Hospital in South Charleston, recently spoke about the highly contagious respiratory infection in a Kanawha-Charleston Health Department (KCHD) video. Benefit: Kenna-based missionary group Africa A New Hope will host a 5k run and 2k walk at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 29, 2025, in Nitro. The event will take place at Nitro High School, 1300 Park Avenue. Proceeds will benefit mission projects in Thabazimbi, South Africa. Entrance fees are $25 for the walk or $30 for the run. Sale: St. Albans will hold its annual community-wide yard sale on Saturday, May 3, 2025. The event, which is sponsored by the St. Albans Chamber, is free to residents and requires no permits, officials said. Anyone wishing to have their address included on the official participant list is asked to register using an online form. The application must be received by noon on Sunday, April 27.
