Free housing fair scheduled for Saturday in Charleston

The fair will feature informational sessions and advice from various housing professionals.

anawha Valley neighbors looking for housing resources can find information and more at a housing fair planned for this coming weekend in Charleston.

The Kanawha-Charleston Housing Authority, local nonprofit Rebuilding Together and the Religious Coalition for Community Renewal will hold the 2024 Charleston Housing Fair from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 2 at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, 900 Washington St. East in Charleston.

“Whether you're a first-time buyer, renter, or current homeowner, this event is perfect for you,” organizers said in a statement announcing Saturday’s event.

The fair will feature informational sessions and advice from various housing professionals, including real estate agents, banks, insurance agents and attorneys.

“The goal of the Housing Fair is to increase the awareness of housing programs and services to help foster the creation of generational wealth through homeownership,” event representatives said.

Two 30-minute workshops will be offered during Saturday’s fair. The first, titled “Learn The Steps to Homeownership,” will include a panel discussion with experts who explain how to purchase a home. The second, “Budgeting, Credit, and Financial Freedom,” delves into the financial aspects of homeownership.

Organizers said the fair will feature several vendors offering information on:

  • Down payment assistance;
  • Foreclosure prevention;
  • Rental assistance;
  • Home repair;
  • Eviction prevention; and
  • Credit repair, among other topics.

In addition to workshops and vendors, the event will also include gift card giveaways, a photo booth, goodie bags, and a flu clinic. A Kids Corner will provide entertainment for children ages 5 and up.

All housing fair activities are free.
