new partnership offers affordable blood testing to Kanawha County residents, and young anglers will cast their lines for prizes at a local fishing rodeo set for Saturday. Here’s the 411 from communities around the region, including Charleston and Belle.

KCHD Labwork: Are you monitoring your A1C? How about your B12, magnesium or Vitamin D? The Kanawha-Charleston Health Department (KCHD) is now offering certain blood work labs at their Charleston office. The labs are open to all residents of Kanawha County. The tests are offered through a partnership between the health department and LabCorp. “These are titers and labs that are nonbillable to insurance,” KCHD officials wrote on the agency’s website. “There are fees associated, but we've worked to keep the cost down.” More than 30 lab tests are offered through the health department. Participants are charged a one-time fee of $25 for each visit. A full list of available titers and labs offered at KCHD is available on the agency’s website.

Fishing Rodeo: Young anglers are invited to Coonskin Park this weekend for the Kanawha County Park and Recreation’s annual Fishing Rodeo. The event takes place from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, April 11, at the park’s Herscher Lake. Children ages three to 10 can register for the event beginning at 9:30 a.m. at Coonskin Park’s Family Center, 2000 Coonskin Drive in Charleston. The event is accessible to holders of a Class Q permit. Children must be accompanied by an adult, and parents should provide their children with equipment (one rod with a single hook per angler). Minnows are not permitted. Prizes will be awarded by a committee. For more information call 304-341-8013.

Cash Bingo: Riverside High School (RHS) Project Graduation is holding a cash bingo event on Saturday, April 25. The event begins at 5 p.m. at RHS Commons, 1 Warrior Way, Belle. Tickets are $25 in advance or $30 at the door. The price includes 20 games plus three special games. Tips, a 50/50 raffle, and concessions will also be available. You must be age 18 or older to play. Project Graduation is a program that provides safe activities for graduating high school seniors. More information on the RHS Project Graduation Bingo fundraiser can be found on Facebook.
