Several communities around the Kanawha Valley were impacted by flash flooding over the weekend.
On Sunday morning, areas of Paint Creek and Cabin Creek — including the towns of Pratt and Handley — saw damaged properties and waterlogged roadways, with reports of water rescues in the vicinity.
Mudslides occurred along sections of Paint Creek, including on Interstate 77 near Whittaker, which closed northbound lanes for some time.
Sections of Belle, Charleston, Dunbar, Cross Lanes and other communities were also inundated with high water throughout the day.
Thousands of local residents were without power by late Sunday evening.
A wave of nighttime rain brought new emergency alerts and resulted in additional flooding in the metro areas and beyond.
The region remains under a Flood Watch through 2 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 18.
This is a developing story.
