est Virginia State University’s (WVSU) 4-H program will host a series of free summer camps for students. The Mind Marvel Neuroscience Camp, Yellow Jacket CyberDefender Camp and 4-H Summer Day Camp will offer hands-on experiences in science and technology to inspire future leaders and innovators.
Mind Marvel Neuroscience Camp, to be held June 22–26 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the WVSU campus, lets students explore brain anatomy, learn about synaptic networks and investigate how the brain perceives pain, responds to addiction and recovers from injury. Sessions develop critical thinking and foster curiosity about neuroscience and medical issues.
Yellow Jacket CyberDefender Camp, to be held June 8–12 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the WVSU campus, introduces the basics of cybersecurity. Students learn digital security, threat identification, authentication tools, cryptography, social engineering and networking. The program builds technology skills and highlights cybersecurity careers.
“We want to spark curiosity and give students a safe space to explore,” said WVSU 4-H Specialist Vathani Amarasingham. “By the end of camp, we hope each student leaves inspired and ready to keep learning.”
WVSU 4-H is also offering a free Summer Day Camp for Kanawha County students entering grades 4-8, taking place July 30 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the WVSU campus. Activities include robotics, an immersive planetarium experience, nature walks, outdoor skills, gardening and nutrition.
