anawha County completed canvassing for the 2026 Primary Election on Tuesday, with county commissioners declaring final results.
Canvassers began verifying election results at 7 a.m. Monday, May 18. They completed canvassing of provisional and absentee ballots around 10:50 a.m.
Six precincts were randomly selected for the required 3% hand count, which also began Monday morning. Work paused for the day at 5:30 p.m. and resumed at 7 a.m. Tuesday.
The hand count was completed around noon Tuesday.
County commissioners declared the results of the primary election Tuesday afternoon.
Primary results will be certified 48 hours after all counties complete their canvass and declare results, according to officials.
Kanawha County Clerk Vera McCormick commended the process.
“As always, our election workers did an outstanding job from working early voting, manning the polls to hand counting for canvass," McCormick said in a statement. "I can’t thank each and every one of them enough. I take pride in ensuring that our elections are run with integrity and accuracy.”
