ove over, chili champs. The mac and cheese challengers are coming to town.
On Saturday, Nov. 2, Charleston’s Capitol Market will host “the cheesiest event in town.” From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., the annual Mac N' Cheese Cook-off returns to the capital city, raising funds for the Childhood Language Center.
The yearly contest features local chefs who battle it out for the title of mac and cheese champion. Attendees sample delicious dishes and then vote for their favorite.
This year, more than 25 competitors are expected to participate.
“You'll experience an explosion of flavors that will leave you craving for more,” organizers said in an event announcement.
Tickets for Saturday’s cook-off cost $20 for adults and $10 for children. A family tasting package, which includes two adult and two children’s tickets, is available for $50. Tickets may be purchased online for a discount or full price at the event.
Ticket holders receive a wristband that grants access to sample dishes from all mac and cheese vendors. After sampling, eventgoers can cast a token for their favorite dish. Both a People's Choice and a Kid's Choice award will be granted to contestants.
Proceeds from the Mac N’ Cheese Cook-off benefit the Childhood Language Center, which provides free speech and language therapy services to children from around the Kanawha Valley.
“Bring your friends and family along for a fun-filled day of cheesy goodness,” organizers said.”[M]ark your calendars and join us at the Capitol Market for the cheesiest cook-off in town."
