Coffee With a Twist, a Nitro-based cafe with strong ties to the community, will close its doors later this week, a representative with the coffee shop announced Monday.
Brandon Brown, Coffee With a Twist's manager, announced the cafe's closure in a social media post.
Brown said the decision came after “much prayer and careful consideration.”
“This is not because we have stopped believing in the vision. Quite the opposite,” Brown wrote.
According to the announcement, Coffee With a Twist grew beyond its role as a coffee shop, becoming a gathering place for the Nitro community.
“Over the past 15 months, Coffee With a Twist became far more than a coffee shop,” the post said. “It became a community — a place where people gathered, friendships formed, prayers were shared, laughter was constant, and people knew they were genuinely welcomed and loved.”
Coffee with a Twist first opened in July 2024 and was originally owned by the Nitro Church of the Nazarene, according to media reports from that time. Brown and his wife April began leading the business in June 2025 after Brandon gave up a corporate job in the oil and gas industry to run the cafe.
On Monday, Brown said financial obligations ultimately led to the decision to close.
“Unfortunately, there are financial obligations we can no longer responsibly continue to take on, and we believe this is the right time to close this chapter,” Brown wrote.
The closure was described as the end of a chapter rather than the end of the ministry connected to the coffee shop.
“[W]e do not believe our ministry in the community ends here,” Brown said. “The relationships are still here. The love is still here. And the ministry is still very much alive.”
The post also expressed hope that the vision behind Coffee With a Twist could continue in another form.
“We truly believe God is not finished with the vision of Coffee With a Twist, and we are praying with excitement about what He may have planned next,” the manager said.
Brown thanked customers and community members who supported the business during the past 15 months under his management.
“To everyone who bought a drink, attended an event, brought a friend, prayed with and for us, encouraged us, or simply made Coffee With a Twist part of your routine — thank you from the bottom of our hearts,” he wrote. “You helped create something very special, and we will forever be grateful.”
Coffee With a Twist, located at 101 Main Ave., will remain open through Thursday, Sept. 24.
